Report Number: 22- 499
Occurred Date: 2/4/2022
Location: Maria at Park
Suspect(s): Sergio Antonio Perdomo Sanchez, 60-year-old Petaluma resident
Incident Summary
On 2/4/22 at 2:48pm, PPD Dispatch received a 911 call where a man reported an altercation with a subject who appeared to be armed with a knife. He brandished the knife at the man and his 6-year-old daughter. Officer Wolford quickly arrived in the area and observed a man, matching the suspect description, in the Safeway shopping center, he attempted to detain the male. The male fled on a bicycle into the apartment complex called The Artisan. A perimeter was set up and officers began a search for the male described as wearing a red short sleeved shirt and light-colored pants on a green bicycle. Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department helicopter, Henry-1 arrived on scene to assist.
When officers were directed to the area of an enclosed trash bin, they began to set up a perimeter to call the man out of the enclosure. As officers were deploying with less than lethal options, the man ran out of the back of the garbage enclosure with objects in both of his hands. Officers yelled for him to "Stop" and "Drop (the weapon)" as he fled east through the rear parking lot of The Artisan. As a woman was exiting the building through a self-locking door, the man ran towards the woman and the door. The woman let go of the door and fled towards law enforcement. The door closed and locked, and the man was unable to gain access.
He turned towards officers with what appeared to be a sharpened stake, painted yellow, in one hand and an object in the other. He dropped an object before holding up a suspected methamphetamine pipe but refused commands to drop the sharpened stake. He refused to drop the object and took a step towards the officers, based on his fleeing from law enforcement, reports that he had brandished a knife, continued resistance, and being armed with a weapon, two officers deployed their TASER’s. Officers approached the man and handcuffed him without further incident. A knife was located in his pants pocket.
From his identification he was identified as 60-year-old, Sergio Antonio Perdomo Sanchez.
He was treated by paramedics from the Petaluma Fire Department. He was subsequently interviewed and transported to Sonoma County Jail.
The staff at The Artisan were extremely helpful in this investigation.
