Suspect arrested for stalking women

On February 2nd, officers arrested a 26-year-old man for stalking after several incidents near the UC campus.

On January 29th at 2 am, three female UC Berkeley students were walking home when they realized a car was following them (Ridge Road/Euclid Avenue area).  The women saw the car drive past them several times and noticed the car make U-turns and drive around the block in order to keep following them.  Concerned for their safety, the women ran home.  From inside their home, the women saw that the same car parked in front of their home and remained there for 1-2 hours.

On the night of January 31st, the women saw the same car circling their neighborhood and called the police.  When officers arrived, they found the car (a gray Honda Civic) parked on the same block where the women lived and contacted the driver/suspect.  During the encounter, the suspect made several peculiar comments about how the University area was full of women who want him.  After speaking with the driver, officers left the man and reported the incident to detectives.

After additional investigation, detectives learned that there had been other suspicious incidents reported in nearby jurisdictions.

On September 20th 2021, a woman in Oakland reported that she had been followed by the same car—where the suspect made several obscene comments to the woman before leaving.

On September 21st 2021, a woman in Oakland reported being followed by the suspect for 2 ½ miles.  When the woman reached her destination, the suspect confronted the woman, told her he wanted sex, and grabbed her breasts.

Between January 21st and February 1st, several women at UC Berkeley reported feeling uncomfortable during several incidents where suspect either got too close to them, flirted with them or inquired about their specific whereabouts.

On February 2nd, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect and he was arrested the same evening.

On February 4th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the suspect with three counts of PC 646.9 PC—stalking as well as several criminal enhancements.

We would like to thank the UC Berkeley Police Department and the Oakland Police Department for their assistance with this investigation.

Although an arrest has been made in this case, we believe there may be other victims as well.  If you have had similar encounters with this suspect, please contact Berkeley PD’s Sex Crimes Unit at (510) 981-5735.
