The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
January 31st  
Armed Robbery – 11575 San Pablo Ave (Church’s Chicken)
At 10:34AM, an officer reports a 33 year old man ordered food at Church’s Chicken, then when his EBT card was declined during his payment attempt, the man produced a realistic replica BB gun and pointed it at the cashier.  The cashier ran away in fear, and the man took the food and fled toward Walgreen’s.  He was located sitting in front of Walgreen’s dining on the food.  The suspect was booked into county jail. 

Homicide – 6510 Stockton Ave
At 2:22PM, an officer reports a 47 year old was discovered by a passerby deceased on his cot from an apparent traumatic head injury.  No suspects have been identified and the case is still under investigation.

February 1st
Vehicle Theft – Kearney St @ Potrero Ave
At 10:24AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole a black 2022 Texoma 20 ft. flatbed car trailer after detaching it from the victim’s parked truck sometime between 9:00PM hours on 1/31 and 10:20AM on 2/1.  The trailer was purchased on 1/31 and had no plate.

Shoplift – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreen’s)
At 11:00AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole $10 worth of food items during several trips in and out of the store.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – BART Path / Portola Dr
At 3:22PM, an officer reports a green 1992 Honda Accord, reported stolen to ECPD on 1/29/2022, was recovered.  The vehicle was called in as a parking complaint because it was conspicuously wedged between the BART electrical substation and the fence to the rear of CVS.
 
February 2nd
Vehicle Theft – 11100 block of San Pablo Ave
At 9:26PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole a vehicle which had been parked on the street sometime earlier that same day.

Vehicle Pursuit – I-80 / Carlson Blvd
At 1:33AM, an officer located a stolen vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle which fled. The officer gave chase but lost the vehicle.

Vehicle Pursuit – San Diego St / Yosemite Ave
At 3:00AM, an officer located a stolen vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle which fled. The officer gave chase but abandoned the pursuit after the suspect began to driver erratically.
 
February 3rd 
Warrant Arrest – 10900 San Pablo Ave (El Cerrito PD)
At 2:37PM, an officer reports a 38 year old Richmond man turned himself in at the lobby in response to a letter from El Cerrito Police notifying him of warrants for his arrest.  The man had two El Cerrito and three Richmond arrest warrants, none of which were citable.  A detective also interviewed the regarding a separate El Cerrito case.  The subject was booked into county jail.

Battery – 400 block of Lexington Ave
At 12:51PM, an officer reports two neighbors began to argue because the victim was standing in his own driveway and recording the suspect with his cell phone while calling him names.  The suspect, a 62 year old El Cerrito man, advanced on the victim repeatedly as the victim alternately stood his ground and backed away.  The suspect then punched the victim twice in the abdomen and head butted him in the chest causing him to lose his balance and fall to the ground.  The entire event was captured on the victim’s cell phone recording.  The victim claimed pain and dizziness and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.  The victim declined prosecution.

Theft of License Plates – 6410 Schmidt Ln
At 3:07PM, an officer reports the license plates were stolen from the victim’s 2019 Toyota Corolla sometime between 9:00PM on 1/27/2022 and 2:30PM on 2/3/2022.

Shoplift – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreen’s)
At 7:59PM, an officer reports two unidentified suspects stole candy before fleeing the store.

Arson – 1500 block of S. 56th St
At 5:11AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect set fire to a vehicle parked in the driveway of a complex.
