UPDATE: Dollar General Armed Robbery
SPINDALE, NC: Joseph Doyle Medford, 31 of Rutherfordton has been arrested and charged with one count of armed robbery in connection with Friday afternoon's armed robbery of Dollar General, 539 West St. Spindale, NC. Based on a tip from a citizen, deputies with the Rutherford County Sherrif's Office located the suspect vehicle at 814 Chimney Rock Road in Rutherfordton. After locating the vehicle, Officers with Spindale Police Department, Rutherfordton Police Department and Rutherford County Sheriff's Office approached the residence and located Mr. Medford along with three additional individuals inside the residence. All were detained while a search warrant for the premises and suspect vehicle was applied for and obtained. Items linking Medford to the robbery were located and seized from the residence.Medford was taken to the Rutherford County Jail where he received a $150,000.00 secured bond.
Spindale police would like to thank the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, Rutherfordton Police Department, Rutherford County Fire Marshal's Office, and the citizens of Rutherford County for their assistance in this investigation and arrest.

ARMED ROBBERY
Just after 2:00 pm this afternoon, Spindale police responded to an armed robbery at the Dollar General located at 539 West St, Spindale, NC 28160. Upon arrival officers were told that a white male entered the business and proceeded to walk behind the check-out counter where he displayed a firearm and demanded money from the register. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect left the business in an older model tan in color single cab Ford truck with a green stripe. Last known direction of travel was north on Railroad Ave. No injuries were reported during the robbery.
Suspect:
White male, wearing black hoodie, red ball cap (on backwards) sunglasses, and a surgical mask. Additionally, the suspect wore black jeans, and gray tennis shoes. The hoodie had an American flag displayed on the front.
Suspect vehicle:
Older model Ford truck tan in color with a green stripe.
