Sheriff’s Office Announces Arrest of Jesus Cortes for Negligent Discharge of a Firearm
Modesto, CA -
Stanislaus Co Sheriff’s deputies have announced the arrest of 38-year-old Modesto resident Jesus Cortes for his involvement in an incident which took place last night on Friday, February 11, 2022 at about 7 p.m.
A shooting occurred near the intersection of Central & Service in Ceres as one of our K-9 handlers was driving to work in a marked patrol car. No injuries were reported and several suspects were detained and questioned regarding their possible involvement. The patrol car was not struck by gunfire. No deputies discharged their service weapons.
Multiple weapons were recovered during the service of a search warrant, other evidence related to the shooting investigation was located, and we are confident the correct gunman was taken into custody.
We thank Ceres Police, Modesto Police, the California Highway Patrol, as well as the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives for their assistance in securing the perimeter and detaining all involved.
Cortes was booked in the Public Safety Center for negligent discharge of a firearm. Bail was set at $25,000. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
