MERIDIAN — On February 11, 2022, Meridian Police Department was made aware of vandalism on a bathroom stall at Meridian High School which threatened a school shooting that would take place on February 14, 2022. On February 13, 2022, Meridian Police Department arrested a sixteen (16) year old juvenile suspected of writing the message on the bathroom stall.
Meridian Police Department thoroughly investigates all threats and asks that parents talk with their children regarding the seriousness of threats made against schools and the consequences involved. Each threat takes significant resources away from potential emergencies, causes unnecessary community panic, and can lead to serious consequences for those involved. Meridian Police Department will maintain an enhanced presence at Meridian High School on February 14, 2022 and will continue to monitor the overall situation.
The juvenile suspect has been charged with one (1) count Misdemeanor Deadly or Dangerous Weapon: Threat of Violence By Word or Electronic Means. Due to the age of suspect, their name will not be released. Meridian Police Department would like to thank Meridian High School and West Ada School District for their assistance with the investigation and continued partnership in keeping our schools safe.
