Crime Blotter for the Week of February 6 - February 12, 2022

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of February 06, 2022 - February 12, 2022.        

February 06, 2022

  • Grand Theft Auto:
1600 Block of Eastford Avenue. An unknown male suspect stole the victim’s gray 2017 Chevy Colorado van. Vehicle outstanding. On 02/06/22 4:35 am video survielance shows an unknown male enter the victim’s other vehicle, where he retrieves the keys to the above vehicle and takes it without owners’ consent. 
 
February 07, 2022
  • Burglary (Vehicle):
1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). On 02/07/22 between 1:50 pm and 5:30 pm suspect(s) unknown entered the victims locked vehicle a 1996 white Acura Integra and stole the victim’s detachable “Momo” steering wheel. No signs of forced entry. Loss was approximately $300. No surveillance video available.  
 
February 08, 2022
  • Grand Theft:
2100 Block of Citrusview Avenue. Between 02/07/22 4:00 pm and 02/08/22 7:30 am suspect(s) unknown stole the Catalytic Converter to the victims 2006 silver Honda Accord. Loss was approximately $1,500. No surveillance video available.    
 
February 09, 2022
  • Aggravated Assault:
1301 Buena Vista Street (Duarte Library). On 02/09/22 at 12:00 am the victim, whom is a known transient was at the location with the suspect, also a known transient. The suspect without reason assaulted the victim by strangling her and then pushed her up against a utility box. The victim’s son who is also a transient shouted for the suspect to stop at which point he did. The victim was taken to the hospital by her son, where deputies made contact. Suspect later arrested on 02/11/22 for additional crimes.
  • Burglary (Residential):
1800 block of Buena Vista Street. Between 02/05/22 4:30 pm and 02/09/22 12:00 pm suspect(s) unknown entered the victim’s residence and stole the victims 9mm “Glock” handgun he had secured in his closet. No signs of forced entry and location was not ransacked. Loss was approximately $900. No surveillance video available.    
 
February 10, 2022
  • Grand Theft Auto (Attempt):
1400 Block of Bloomdale Street. Between 02/09/22 7:30 pm and 02/10/22 11:00 am suspect(s) unknown forced entry into the victims white 2013 Kia Optima and punched the ignition and attempted to take the vehicle. No surveillance video available.
 
February 11, 2022
  • Aggravated Assault:
1122 Huntington Drive (McDonalds). On 02/11/22 11:00 am a male black adult 6’03’, 200lbs, whom is a known transient jumped on the hood of a vehicle and continued to walk across the car damaging the hood and windshield. The suspect ran into “McDonalds”, where he picked up a plastic safety cone and threw it at an employee striking the electronic television menu damaging it in the process. The suspect proceeded to run out of the McDonalds and across the street towards Starbucks, where he jumped on the hood of another vehicle damaging the hood. The suspect proceeded to jump on top of the dumpster area of Starbucks where a prolonged standoff occurred.  After a lengthy negotiation with the suspect, he came down without further incident where he was arrested. Suspect was additionally charged with the Aggravated Assault from 02/09/22.
  • Petty Theft:
2000 Block of Buena Vista Street. Suspect unknown was observed on video surveillance on 02/11/22 2:52 am taking the victims bike and scooter from the backyard of the location. Loss was approximately $300.     
 
February 12, 2022
  • Rape:
1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). The victim and suspect who are in a platonic friendship were in the suspects motorhome at the location on 02/12/22 3:30 am.  The victim laid in the bed with the suspect with her back towards the suspect when the suspect rolled over and placed his arm and legs around her. The victim attempted to remove the suspects arms and legs off her but was unable to do so.  The suspect began to remove the victims’ pants and forced her on to her back, at which point he forcibly had sexual intercourse with the victim. Suspect arrested. Special Victims Bureau investigating.
  • Burglary (Vehicle):
2200 Block of Huntington Drive. Between 02/10/22 6:00 pm and 02/12/22 11:30 am suspect(s) unknown entered the victims locked vehicle a 2013 gray Kia Soul and stole miscellaneous items. Driver side door lock damaged. Loss was approximately $1,000. No surveillance video available.  
 
CRIME PREVENTION TIPS FOR SENIORS
 
At Home:
  • Never open your door automatically. Install and use a peephole.
  • Lock your doors, windows, and don’t forget the garage.
  • Vary your daily routine.
  • Use "Neighbor Watch" to keep an eye on your neighborhood. A concerned neighbor is often the best protection against crime because suspicious persons and activities are promptly noticed and reported to the police.
  • Don't leave notes on the door when going out.
  • Leave lights on when going out at night; use a timer to turn lights on and off when you are away for an extended period.
  • Notify neighbors and the police when going away on a trip.
  • Cancel deliveries such as newspapers and contact the U.S. Post Office to place a HOLD on your mail.
  • Be wary of unsolicited offers to make repairs to your home. Deal only with reputable businesses.
  • Keep an inventory with serial numbers and photographs of appliances, antiques, and furniture. Leave copies in a safe place.
