Advisory

Prepare for Localized Flooding, Winter Weather Conditions, Earlier Waste Pickup

Warmer temperatures today will be followed by widespread rainfall this evening.  Localized street flooding around Burr Ridge is possible on Thursday with this combination of snowmelt and heavy rainfall on frozen ground.

Sleet, freezing rain, and wet snow are also expected early Thursday morning.  Snowfall may briefly subside in the morning, but heavier snowfall rates and high winds are forecast for Thursday afternoon and early evening.  Snow accumulation of 3 to 4 inches are anticipated.  Burr Ridge is under a Winter Weather Advisory by the National Weather Service.

Groot waste pickup on Thursday will start earlier at 6:00AM.  For areas south of 79th Street, place your waste receptacles by the street an hour earlier for Groot to pick up ahead of the storm.  Residents can check the company’s website at www.groot.com or download the Groot App to stay informed of scheduling changes.

Our Public Works Department crews were preparing the street inlets today for the heavy rainfall tonight.   Starting Thursday, the same crews will operate our snowplow trucks continuously throughout the winter storm, apply deicing treatments and keep the roadways passable.  Blowing snow and quickly dropping temperatures on Thursday evening may leave some roadways slightly snow covered.

Shoveling heavy, wet snow requires exertion; residents are reminded to be cautious and pay attention to your health.  Also, please assist any neighbors who may need help clearing snow from their driveways, sidewalks, mailboxes, and fire hydrants.

The Burr Ridge Police Department reminds everyone to keep all vehicles off the streets and locked in garages or driveways until the roadways are cleared.  Also, please refrain from blowing, shoveling or plowing snow onto the roadway.

If you need medical assistance or have an emergency, please call 9-1-1.  To report a damaged mailbox, call 630-654-8181 and your issue will be addressed after our Public Works crews have completed the snow and ice control operations.  Please continue to monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local news outlets for timely information from the National Weather Service.
