John Smith Road Landfill and San Benito County kindly remind motorists to safely and properly transport household waste.

Tips for properly transporting your load:
•     Place products in cardboard boxes so containers do not spill during transport.
  • Be prepared to leave your containers and boxes at the Collection Facility.
  • Label materials that are not in their original containers.
  • Make sure containers are not leaking and lids are tightly sealed.
  • Load the boxes of materials that are prepared for drop-off into your trunk.
  • At the John Smith Road Landfill, trained personnel will ask you to remain in your car while they remove your household hazardous waste from your trunk.

For some, Springtime means the beginning of do-it-yourself home improvement projects, spring cleaning, and working in the garden. “This event is a great way to get a jumpstart on your Spring cleaning. The City of Hollister supports events like these that help our residents safely dispose of unwanted and hazardous cleaners, car care fluids, paint and insecticides that may present problems in our environment, landfill and storm drains,” said City of Hollister Mayor Ignacio Vasquez. “San Benito County’s Integrated Waste Management Regional Agency would like to thank our partners the Cities of Hollister and San Juan Bautista, along with John Smith Road Landfill as they support this event and engage our community to safely drop off their household hazardous waste at this monthly event,” said Integrated Waste Management Manager Celina Stotler.
This event is offered every third Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at John Smith Road Landfill. San Benito County and the cities of Hollister and San Juan Bautista encourage responsible household hazardous waste handling. For more information on other recycling events visit www.cosb.us/iwm.
