INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Accident
LOCATION: Yucaipa Blvd and Hampton Rd.
VICTIM(S): Ignacio Esparza, 34 year old resident of San Bernardino
SUMMARY: On Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 11:06 p.m., a call for service was received through Sheriff’s Dispatch of a single car accident at the intersection of Yucaipa Blvd. and Hampton Rd. with no driver found. Deputies responded and found the driver deceased inside the vehicle.
Initial investigation and witness statements revealed the vehicle was speeding while traveling westbound on Yucaipa Blvd. The driver lost control, hit the North curb-line of Yucaipa Blvd., and started to lift off the ground. The vehicle collided with the light pole on the northeast corner of Hampton Rd. and Yucaipa Blvd. The vehicle sustained major damage on impact with the light pole, with one half of the vehicle coming to rest against the light pole and the other half several hundred yards down Hampton Rd.
The Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) was notified, responded to the scene, and assumed the investigation. Yucaipa City Yards were notified, and the following roadways were closed to traffic during the investigation; Westbound Yucaipa Blvd at China Berry St. and Westbound Hampton Rd.
