Community Safety Alert

The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) is actively investigating two separate sexual battery incidents that occurred yesterday, Feb. 17, 2022, at around 8:00 p.m. in the span of an hour, on the same street, about three blocks apart, between the 700 and 900 block of West 18th Street. It is believed the same suspect is responsible for both incidents. The victims were both female and the suspect was described as a male, possibly Hispanic, between 25 and 30 years old, 5'8" to 6' tall. The suspect was wearing dark pants, a dark hooded sweatshirt, and a dark colored face mask. There is no image of the suspect at this time.

This is an active investigation but no one is in custody at this time. CMPD would like to ask the community to stay alert and vigilant.

If anyone has information on these incidents, please call our non-emergency line at 714-754-5252. In an emergency, please call 911. Can’t call, text 911.

If an arrest is made or further information becomes available that would assist in an arrest, CMPD will issue an update.
