PRESS RELEASE: Multiple People Shot Following Fight Outside Bar
Saturday morning, February 19, 2022, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Turlock Police Officers were patrolling in the downtown area when they heard the sound of shots fired less than a block away from their location. As officers responded the area of the 100 block of South First Street, Turlock Police Dispatch began receiving calls of a shooting and reports of several people being shot outside a local bar.
Once officers were on scene, they located multiple gunshot victims. The officers began rendering first aid to the victims until advanced medical personnel from the Turlock Fire Department and AMR arrived at the scene. After the victims were transported to local area hospitals, we learned none of the seven victims received life threatening injuries.
Turlock Police Department Detectives were called to the scene to assist in the investigation. They worked to process the scene, identify and collect evidence, and conduct interviews.
The suspected shooter is described as a heavy-setHispanic male between 25 to 30 years of age. Video of the incident shows his hair style was unique in that the sides of his head appeared to be shaved and he had what appeared to be a short pony tail. He was described as wearing a white sweat shirt and blue jeans.
The vehicle the suspect drove is described as a white newer model Mercedes Benz sedan. The vehicle was last seen fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed, heading southbound on South Golden State Boulevard from the intersection of East Main Street.
The preliminary investigation has revealed there was a fight inside the bar earlier in the evening, which may be connected.
The investigation further revealed the shooting occurred just outside the front of the business as guest were leaving. Detectives believe this shooting stemmed from an earlier altercation in the bar and do not believe that this was a random act of violence. Evidence located at the scene suggests the shooter targeted one individual within the crowd and without regard for the others fired also hitting six bystanders. Chief of Police Jason Hedden said,“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims injured in this senseless shooting. We understand the concerns of our residents and our team continues to work hard to provide for a safer Turlock.”
Detectives are reviewing video and evidence collected at the scene in an attempt to identify the suspect. Special Operations Lieutenant Neil Cervenka said, “We are early on in this investigation, but Detectives are working diligently to identify the shooter. We will provide an update as new information becomes available.”
