Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred Fifteenth Update Sunday, February 20, 2022

In a press release, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy reported today that there were 44 new positive cases yesterday and that the County’s COVID-19 pandemic total is now at 61,717 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased from 72.1 to 70.1 cases.

County DOH reported that there were three COVID-19 hospitalizations overnight and that the number of hospitalized County residents increased by one to now 39 patients.  There are now six patients in the ICU, an increase of one.  The County’s pandemic death toll remained at 526.

State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose is 80.9% of the County’s total population and 89.5% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination is 73.5% for the total population.  The State’s rate for one dose is 88.5% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination is 75.2% for the total population.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 170,369 tests Statewide were 2,640 or 1.5% positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 2.2%.  The Capital Region had 6,058 tests of which 164 or 2.7% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 4.0%.  The County had 1,655 tests of which 37 or 2.2% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 3.7%.
Governor Hochul announced today that the State’s positive rate for tests was 1.54%.  Other COVID-19 data included new hospitalizations (2,574, -171), new admissions (270), ICU patients (443, -17), intubations (245, -13), and deaths (38).

Over the past few days, dozens of residents let me know that they have received notice from the Post Office that free at-home COVID-19 test kits that were ordered back on January 18 or 19 are scheduled for delivery over the next few days.  Not sure why it took a month, but I would guess that it proved very popular and getting 60 million ordered test kits delivered by mail was a huge undertaking.   You can still order four at-home COVID tests at the Federal government’s website or directly at the Post Office website.  You can also order kits at a toll-free number (800-232-0233) from 8am to midnight.

As we hopefully are nearing the end of this nearly two-year pandemic, please consider helping residents in our community who are having difficulties making ends meet.   I thank you for your generous donations and ask for your continuing support of Community Caregivers and the Guilderland Food Pantry.  Any donations are greatly appreciated, and will help families who are struggling with increased costs for heating and basic necessities.

I hope that you are continuing to enjoy a relaxing President’s Day holiday weekend.

Thank you for staying safe and calm.
