Jesus Valencia is arrested for attempting to steal a purse from an elderly woman and firing one round when she refused to release it

DATE/TIME: Tuesday, February 22, 2022 / 9:47 A.M.
INCIDENT: Robbery / Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm
LOCATION: 4200 Chino Hills Parkway
SUSPECT(S): Jesus Valencia, 22-year-old resident of Perris
VICTIM(S): Confidential female resident of Chino Hills

SUMMARY: On Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at approximately 9:47 A.M., deputies from the Chino Hills Station were dispatched to Rite Aid, located at 4200 Chino Hills Parkway. The witness observed a male, later identified as Jesus Valencia, attempt to steal a purse from an elderly female. When the victim refused to release her purse, Valencia fired one round into the ground from a semi-automatic pistol before he left the scene in a vehicle. During the course of the investigation, detectives learned Valencia committed two armed robberies earlier in the morning, in Norco and Corona. After leaving Chino Hills, Valencia committed another armed robbery in West Covina. Detectives shared information with other agencies and believed Valencia was in El Monte. Officers from El Monte located Valencia's vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Valencia and two females were contacted inside the vehicle. Detectives located evidence of the armed robberies including the semi-automatic pistol.

Valencia was arrested and transported to the West Valley Detention Center where he was booked for robbery and unlawfully discharging a firearm. The communication amongst all agencies led to the speedy apprehension of Valencia.
