Crime Blotter for the Week of February 13 - February 19, 2022

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of February 13, 2022 - February 19, 2022.        

February 13, 2022

  • Burglary (Vehicle):
1191 Huntington Drive (Planet Fitness) On 02/13/22 between 7:00 am to 7:20 am suspect(s) unknown shattered the front passenger window to the victims locked vehicle a 2012 silver Ford Focus and stole the victim’s laptop from the passenger seat. Loss was approximately $1,400. No surveillance video available.  
 
February 14, 2022
  • Aggravated Assault:
1302 Duarte Road (Duarte Liquor Store) On 02/14/22 at 7:48 pm while patrolling the area, a deputy observed several suspects engaged in a physical altercation. With the assistance of back up units, two suspects were detained and arrested. One of the suspects resisted the deputies and was additionally charged with resisting arrest. 
 
February 15, 2022
  • No significant activity. 
February 16, 2022
  • Burglary (Commercial):
2229 Huntington Drive (Redwood Pizza) Between 02/15/22 at 10:30 pm and 02/16/22 10:00 am suspect(s) unknown entered the location and stole a money bag that was placed in a box in the rear of the business containing approximately $400 in US currency. No surveillance video available.  
  • Petty Theft:
1470 Mountain Avenue (Best Buy) On 02/16/22 at 4:48 pm a male Hispanic adult 5’08”, 220 lbs. wearing a red long sleeve shirt, brown shorts, blue medical mask, and black rimmed glasses entered the location and selected an espresso machine and a bottled water. While at the register he advised the clerk he entered the location with the espresso machine and only paid for the water. As the suspect left, they discovered he did not enter the location with the item and observed the suspect leaving in a black Dodge Caliber LIC 7KZH031. Loss was approximately $800. Video surveillance available. 
  • Grand Theft Vehicle:
2300 Block of Park Rose Avenue. Between 02/15/22 at 8:00 pm and 02/16/22 at 8:00 am suspect(s) unknown stole the victims gray 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Vehicle outstanding.  

February 17, 2022
  • Petty Theft:
2600 Block of Bashor Street. Between 02/16/22 at 7:00 pm and 02/17/22  at 7:00 am suspect(s) unknown stole the victims key fob from his unlocked vehicle that was parked in the driveway. Loss was approximately $250.     

February 18, 2022
  • Burglary (residential):
900 block of Huntington Drive. On 02/18/22 at 3:00 pm an unknown male approximately 30 years old with black hair wearing a white T-shirt was observed on video surveillance leaving the victims apartment with a red “Target” shopping cart containing property stolen from the apartment. A check of the location revealed the suspect shattered a sliding glass door and ransacked the location once inside. Loss was approximately $8,000.
 
February 19, 2022
  • Aggravated Assault (Domestic violence):
1600 Block of Duncannon Avenue. On 02/19/22 between 2:00 am and 3:00 am the suspect, a male Hispanic adult adult 6’03’, 210lbs, the ex-boyfriend of the victim came to the location and entered without permission. The suspect entered the victim’s bedroom and advised her he wanted to apologize and get back together. The victim attempted to get out of bed as she told the suspect to leave.  The suspect became upset and pushed the victim back onto the bed and began to strangle her with both hands. The victim attempted to break free but was unable to.  The suspect eventually released his grasp on the victim, however he prevented the victim from leaving or using her cell phone to call “911”.  The victim was eventually able to use the SOS function on her daughter’s phone which prompted a “911” operator to call back. The suspect left the location. Suspect outstanding.
 
CRIME PREVENTION TIPS FOR SENIORS
 
Walking:
  • If you are a victim of a crime during your walk, make as much noise as possible by calling for help or blowing a whistle. Do not pursue your attacker. Call 911 and report the crime as soon as possible.
  • Avoid walking alone at night. Try to have a friend accompany you in a high-risk area, even during the daytime.
  • Always plan your route and stay alert to your surroundings. Walk confidently.
  • Have a companion accompany you.
  • Walk in well-lighted areas.
  • Have your key ready when approaching your front door.
  • Carry only what you need during your walks, don’t carry large, bulky shoulder bags or a purse. Make sure to carry a cellphone.
