Chief Moore releases 2021 City of Janesville Crime Statistics
Over the past 10 years, crime rates in Janesville have been cut in half. Not only has the past decade seen a sharp decrease in overall crime, but The Janesville Community saw the lowest totals in nearly 40 years, in 2021. We saw a 14% decrease in crime from 2020; a 2% decrease in violent crime, and a 16% decrease in property crime.
This is the community’s crime rate. While The Janesville Police Department shares the crime statistics, it takes an entire community to drive down crime with the help of our schools, the Human Services Department, the YWCA / YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club, connected and involved neighborhoods, and of most importance – good parenting; just to list a few.
State and national crime trends are also dropping; however Janesville’s crime seems to be dropping at a faster rate.
Sadly, in 2021 the community experienced one (1) criminal homicide, ten (10) opiate overdose deaths, and nine (9) fatal traffic crashes.
A trusting, supportive, and engaged community allow for a police department to be successful. Thank you, Janesville!
