Central Marin Police Investigating an In-Custody Death of an Inmate at the Marin County Jail
The Central Marin Police Authority is currently investigating the death of an in-custody inmate at the Marin County Jail.
On the morning of February 22, 2022, a Marin County Deputy Sheriff assigned to the jail division, while conducting a routine check, located an inmate hanging in her cell. The inmate was assigned to a solely occupied cell. Despite all lifesaving measures, the inmate was pronounced deceased at 5:45 am.
As a matter of standard protocol in these circumstances and at the request of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, the Central Marin Police Authority is conducting an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the inmate. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Unit is also assisting by conducting an independent death investigation. The inmate has been identified by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Unit as Julianne Riebeling, age 52, a resident of Corte Madera. Ms. Riebeling was arrested by the San Rafael Police Department on June 7, 2021 and booked into the Marin County Jail on charges of PC 211-Robbery, PC 245-Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and PC 148-Obstruct, Resist, or Delay a Peace Officer. The Central Marin Police will provide further information as the investigation continues.
