Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred Nineteenth Update, Thursday, February 24, 2022

In a press release, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy reported today that there were 57 new positive cases yesterday and that the County’s COVID-19 pandemic total is now at 61,891 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased from 58.2 to 54.8 cases.

County DOH reported that there were three COVID-19 hospitalizations overnight and that the number of hospitalized County residents decreased by one to now 28 patients.  There are now four patients in the ICU, an increase of one.  The County’s pandemic death toll remained at 527.

State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.0% of the County’s total population and 89.5% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 73.6% for the total population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 88.7% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 75.3% for the total population.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 129,059 tests Statewide were 2,704 or 2.1% positive, with the seven-day average remaining at 2.0%.  The Capital Region had 7,218 tests of which 204 or 2.8% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 3.5%.  The County had 1,626 tests of which 40 or 2.5% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 3.0%.

Governor Hochul announced today that the State’s positive rate for tests was 2.10%.  Other COVID-19 data included new hospitalizations (2,274, -130), new admissions (265), ICU patients (377, -8), intubations (198, -14), and deaths (31).

CDC’s data, which determines whether facemasks should be worn indoors, has Albany County just barely at a “high” infection rate with a seven-day average of 105.73 positive cases per 100,000 residents, and the State’s infection rate (100.8) is even closer to the CDC’s 100 positive cases threshold.  The nation’s infection rate (158.6) remains at a “high” infection rate.  Maine (1,342.3) again has the highest infection rate, and Washington (77.6) has the lowest rate.  Five states, including Maryland, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, and Washington, now have “substantial” infection rates, with the other 45 states at “high” rates.  New York now has the sixth lowest infection rate.

For the safety of residents and staff, Town Hall and other facilities, including the Transfer Station, will be closed tomorrow in anticipation of the looming snowstorm.  All non-essential workers have been directed not to report.  The Transfer Station anticipates reopening on Saturday for its regular hours of 7:30am to 3:30pm.  Please remember that no overnight parking is allowed on Town streets, except where there are posted signs, and please also take time to clear around fire hydrants.  The anticipated snowfall should provide near perfect conditions for winter recreation in Town parks and open space.  More information is available on the Parks & Recreation’s webpage
Thank you for staying safe and calm.
