Crime Alert Bulletin covering the week of February 14-20, 2022
When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.
Notable Cases
On Monday, 02-14-22, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Officer Moody initiated a traffic stop on an Infiniti M45 for not having a front license plate and expired registration at Hillside Boulevard and Gambetta Street. The suspect did not have a driver’s license in his possession and verbally identified himself. Through investigation, Officer Moody determined that the name and DOB given were fictitious. Officer Moody removed the keys to the car in an attempt to prevent the suspect from driving away. The suspect then grabbed the keys from Officer Moody and placed the key back into the ignition. To prevent the suspect from driving away, Officer Moody pulled the suspect out of the vehicle and after requesting the suspect to put his hands behind his back for approximately 15 times, the suspect eventually complied. The suspect, a 19-year old San Francisco resident, was on probation. After searching the vehicle, Officer Moody located 28 unopened cosmetic items. The suspect was arrested and booked into jail for false impersonation, resisting arrest, and being in possession of stolen property.
On Monday, 02-14-22, at approximately 5:58 p.m., a 48-year old Daly City resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after being involved in a hit-and-run collision in the area of John Daly Boulevard and Junipero Serra Boulevard.
On Wednesday, 02-16-22, at approximately 2:36 a.m., Officer Zhang initiated a traffic stop on an Audi A4 at John Muir Drive and Lake Merced Boulevard for having an expired registration. The driver, a 43-year old San Francisco resident, had three outstanding warrants. Officer Zhang asked the driver if he had any drugs on his person and the suspect stated he had “crystal” methamphetamine. Officer McQuade had arrived to assist and confiscated a single folded one-dollar bill which contained “crystal” methamphetamine from the passenger, a 41-year old San Francisco resident. The driver was arrested and cited for the warrants and possession of a controlled substance. The passenger was arrested and cited for possession of a controlled substance.
On Saturday, 02-19-22, at approximately 3:35 p.m., Officer Zhang was dispatched to the Westlake Shopping Center on an initial report of a fraud. The victim, an 89-year old Daly City resident, said as she was walking in the Westlake Shopping Center, she was approached by three suspects in a newer style white van. She described the driver as a Middle Eastern adult male in his fifties, with a dark complexion, clean shaven, slender build, approximately six feet tall, wearing dark clothing, and having gold teeth. The front passenger was described to be a Middle Eastern female, approximately 40 years old, with a dark complexion, slender build, approximately 5’5”, wearing a scarf over her head, and having gold teeth. The rear passenger was described as a Middle Eastern female, approximately 14-years old, having a light complexion, and wearing a white dress. As the victim walked towards Safeway, the suspects stopped her and asked her to get inside the van. The victim said she had to go to an appointment and did not enter the van. As the victim spoke, she could see the passenger take off three yellow metal necklaces and two yellow metal rings. The passenger told the victim, “$1,000.” The victim said she did not have any money. The passenger then gave the victim three additional yellow metal necklaces and told the victim that her family needed to return to Iraq. The suspect further stated she did not have enough money and was willing to bring the victim back to her residence. This statement made the victim want to help the suspects and she agreed to let them drive her home to the 1000 block of Skyline Drive so she could give them $2,000. The victim left her front door open, while she went to her bedroom and closed the door. As the victim counted her money, all three suspects opened her bedroom door. The victim handed over $2,000 in cash to the suspects. The suspects proceeded to snatch an additional $1,000 in cash still in the victim’s hand. As the suspects ran out of the bedroom, they pushed past the victim. Once the suspects left, the victim realized that an envelope containing an additional $13,000 in cash was empty. While counting the cash, the victim believed that one of the suspects had taken the extra cash from the envelope without her noticing. The total loss was $16,000. This investigation is still under investigation.
On Sunday, 02-20-22, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Officer Risslen initiated a traffic stop on a Lexus at the Arco gas station on the corner of Washington Street and Sullivan Avenue for not having a functioning lamp to illuminate the license plate and for missing registration tabs. The passenger did not want to exit the vehicle or have his vehicle searched. Officer Martin arrived on the scene to assist and asked the suspect why he did not want his vehicle searched. The suspect stated he had “Zans in the car.” Zans is a common street name for Xanax. The suspect then reached into the vehicle’s center console and took out a bag containing 134 suspected Xanax pills. The suspect, a 57-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested and booked into jail for possession of a controlled substance for sales.

Youth Unlimited Pilot Program
In partnership with the San Mateo County Office of Education, SamTrans is launching a six-month pilot program from January 1 through June 30, 2022. Known as the Youth Unlimited pilot program, it provides free SamTrans bus fares for Socioeconomically Disadvantaged (SED) students, as defined by the California Department of Education. SED students include students that are eligible for the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program, students experiencing homelessness, foster-youth, migrant students, and students whose parents did not graduate high school.
The overall goals of the program are to reduce transportation costs for low-income families, attract new and more frequent riders, and understand the potential operational impacts of providing free fares to some or all youth riders.

Nextdoor.com
Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
