El Cerrito Police Department Crime Blotter: February 14th - 24th, 2022

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
February 14th
 
Vandalism – 11720 San Pablo Ave:
At 10:15 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect shattered the rear window and cracked the windshield of the victim vehicle with an unknown object, sometime between 9 PM on 2/13/ 2022 and 10:15 AM on 2/14/2022.

Commercial Burglary – 11740 San Pablo Ave:
At 10:20 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect threw a rock through the front window of the acupuncture office and entered the business.  The suspect stole a credit card machine worth $200. Occurred between 5 PM on 2/12/2022 and 6:15 AM on 2/13/2022.

Vehicle Burglary – 11720 San Pablo Ave:
At 11:25 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect shattered the right rear window of the victim vehicle and stole a backpack, sometime between 7 PM on 2/13/2022 and 11:25 AM on 2/14/2022.

Vehicle Theft – 5200 block of Potrero Ave:
At 12:28 PM, an officer reports the victim’s black 2001 Lexus GS300 was stolen from the street between 8:30 AM on 2/13/2022 and 10:00 AM on 2/14/2022.

Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreen’s):
At 12:35 PM, an officer reports an unidentified male suspect stole $300 worth of razor blades.  When the store manager was trying to call 911, the suspect pressed the button to hang up the phone, then pushed the Plexiglas COVID barrier over causing it to crack.

Domestic Violence Restraining Order Violation – 6900 block of Portola Dr:
At 2:46 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 54 year old local man when he once again arrived at the victim’s apartment in violation of a domestic violence restraining order.  The subject was arrested and transported to the MDF. 
 
Warrant Arrest – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Luckys):
At 9:40 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 30-year-old woman who was found to have a warrant for her arrest. The woman was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):  
At 9:59 PM, an officer accepted the Citizen’s Arrest of a 25-year-old woman after the woman was identified as having just stolen property from the business. The merchandise was recovered and the woman was released with a citation.

Attempted Burglary – 7100 block of Schmidt Lane:  
At 2:20 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect cut a hole in the fence of a commercial property in an attempt to steal property. The suspect left before removing the property and no loss was reported.

Defrauding an Innkeeper – 11344 San Pablo Avenue (Dennys):  
At 2:41 AM, an officer reports an unknown male ordered food as a dine-in patron but fled the restaurant when it came time to pay.
 
February 15th

 
Identity Theft – 500 block of Kearney St:
At 10:32 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect withdrew $2000 from the victim’s bank account on 1/23/2022 without authorization and by unknown means.

Battery on Peace Officer / Attempt to Disarm – 10794 San Pablo Ave (Marshall’s):
At 12:13 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 38-year-old man after officers responded to a report that he was lying in a disabled person’s parking stall.  The subject attacked the officer, punching her in the head and forcing her onto the ground.  While on the ground, he attempted to steal her baton.  The man was eventually subdued and was taken into custody.  The District Attorney later charged felony battery on a police officer charges.   

Shoplifting – 11545 San Pablo Ave (Ross):
At 2:15 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 32 year old Oakland woman for shoplifting $271 worth of clothing, luggage and reusable bags from Ross.  The woman was issued a citation and released and the stolen property was returned to Ross. 

Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreen’s):
At 3:06 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of the same 32-year-old Oakland woman from the previously mentioned shoplifting case for shoplifting after she stole merchandise.    The woman was spotted by an officer committing the Walgreen’s theft while he was driving in the area looking for her in relation to the Ross shoplifting case. The woman was issued a second citation and released, and the stolen property was returned to Walgreen’s.
 
February 16th
 
Attempted Grand Theft – Wall Ave / San Pablo Ave:
At 8:14 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed a security plate in an attempt to steal the victim’s catalytic converter sometime overnight.  The converter was not taken but the vehicle was left up on jacks. 

Robbery (Strongarm) – 10794 San Pablo Ave (Marshalls):
At 12:02 PM, an officer responded to the report of a group of four suspects who attempted to steal a woman’s purse as she walked through the parking lot.  The victim was dragged and suffered minor injuries. 

Battery – 8300 Terrace:
At 2:08 PM, an officer responded to the report of a subject spitting on their neighbor during a dispute that happened earlier in the day. 

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito plaza (Ross):
At 3:09 PM, an officer reports an unidentified female concealed merchandise belonging to the store in her bag and then left without paying.

Stolen Vehicle – S. 56th Street / Potrero Ave:
At 7:02 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle sometime within the last week.

February 17th
 
Trespassing – Cutting Boulevard / San Pablo Ave:
At 6:20 PM, an officer reports an unknown subject has gained access to the convenience store structure at the former gas station on the corner of this location.  

Warrant Arrest, Drunk in Public, Drug Paraphernalia – 10560 San Pablo Avenue (Jay Vee Liquors):
At 7:11 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 54-year-old male who was found to have a warrant for his arrest. The man was heavily intoxicated and also was in possession of drug paraphernalia. The man was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

February 18th
 
Petty Theft – 430 El Cerrito Plaza (Foot Locker)
At 7:11 pm an officer was sent to the report that someone had ran out of the store with merchandise that they did not pay for. 
 
Grand Theft – 11545 San Pablo Avenue (Ross)
At 8:59 am, an officer was sent to the report that four suspects had come into the store, grabbed thirty-five pairs of shoes, and ran out without paying for them.  
 
February 19th
 
Recovered stolen vehicle – 3900 block of Fleming Avenue
At 8:47 pm an officer found a vehicle using the LoJack system that had been stolen in a Car Jacking earlier in the day in Oakland.  There was nobody inside the vehicle.  The Oakland Police Department was notified, and they responded and took over recovering the vehicle.  
 
February 20th
 
Driving Under the Influence – Potrero Avenue at Kearney Street
At 2:17 am an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and after an investigation determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol.  The driver was arrested, booked at ECPD, issued a citation, and released to a sober friend. 
 
Stolen Vehicle – 1500 block of Lexington Avenue
At 9:04 pm an officer was sent to the report that someone had stolen the U-Haul van that someone had rented and had parked here. 
 
February 21st
 
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 200 block of S. 46th Street
At 12:26 am an officer located a stolen car using the LoJack system that had been reported stolen to Richmond PD.  The owner of the vehicle in El Cerrito was contacted and they were reunited with their vehicle. 
 
Recovered stolen vehicle – Cutting Blvd at Alva Avenue
At 1:25 am an officer located a vehicle that had been reported stolen to El Cerrito PD they day before.  The vehicle was released to the owner. 
 
February 22nd

 
Stolen Vehicle – 400 block of Village Dr:
An officer responded to the report of an unidentified suspect stealing a 1999 Honda CRV sometime overnight.
 
Stolen Vehicle Recovery: - Errol Dr./ Village Dr:
An officer recovered a stolen Honda CRV. 
 
Restraining Order Violation:
An officer responded to the report of a subject violating a domestic violence restraining order.  The subject fled the scene prior to the report. 
 
Possession of stolen vehicle – 5700 block of El Dorado Avenue
At 2:32 am an officer was dispatched to the report of an auto Burglary.  When he arrived in the area, he found the suspect vehicle a few blocks away.  Two people in that vehicle were detained.  At the original scene a second suspicious vehicle was located and determined to be reported as stolen.  Additional stolen property was located within the stolen vehicle.  The two suspects were arrested, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 
 
Grand Theft – 100 block of Carmel Avenue
At 4:25 am an officer was sent to the report that someone had just stolen the catalytic convertor from their neighbor’s vehicle.    
 
February 23rd

Grand Theft – 1170 San Pablo Ave:
An officer reported the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle.  The theft occurred overnight. 

February 24th:

Tampering with an Auto – 10794 San Pablo Ave:
At 1044 hours, officers responded to the report of a suspect attempting to steal a parked vehicle. 

Theft –11760 San Pablo Ave:
At 1447 hours, an officer responded to the report of a theft of a license plate.
