INCIDENT: Possession of Assault Weapon, and Possession of a Dangerous Drug
LOCATION: 36000 block of Lake View Rd, Hinkley
SUSPECT(S): Jose Rodrigo Meraz Garcia, 43-year-old male of Hinkley
VICTIM(S): Female Resident from Hinkley
SUMMARY: On Saturday, February 5, 2022, at approximately 2:59 p.m., deputies from the Barstow Sheriff’s Station responded to the 36000 block of Lake View Road in Hinkley reference to a report of a stolen trailer.
When deputies arrived, they contacted the victim who provided them with information that led to the recovery of the stolen trailer at a neighboring house. The victim of the stolen trailer did not desire any prosecution.
During the recovery of the stolen trailer deputies saw an unknown male at the property who was later identified as Jose Rodrigo Meraz Garcia. Garcia was attempting to hide behind a vehicle. Deputies identified themselves and were able to detain Garcia without incident. Upon further investigation, deputies located ammunition and an AR-15 style assault rifle with no serial number “ghost gun” with an 8” barrel in the area where Garcia was hiding from deputies.
While booking Garcia, Deputy Lafond discovered narcotics in Garcia’s property. Garcia was arrested and booked into the Barstow Jail for possession of an assault weapon, possession of a short -barreled riffle less than 16”, and possession of methamphetamine.
