Scam Alert.
The Sleepy Eye Police Department has received several calls today involving two different scams.
The first scam involves a phone call from a number that appears to be local. The caller claims to be a family member, often a grandchild. The caller will continue to claim that they are in jail or legal trouble of some sort and need money. 
The second scam brought to our attention today involved a text from and number that appeared to be local. The message claimed to be Father Steffl of St. Mary's Church. The message asked a member of the church to assist in providing items for cancer patients. The victim of this scam realized it was not a legitimate message from Father Steffl when the message asked for gift cards for the cancer patients.
Please be aware of these scams and speak with family members who may fall victim to them as well.
