Narrative:

Two detectives from the Thousand Oaks Police Investigation Unit became ill after exposure to an unknown substance during a search warrant service in Los Angeles County.

On March 1, 2022, Detectives were serving a search warrant in the 19300 block of Sherman Way in Reseda following the arrest of Alexandro Gomez.  Gomez is suspected of committing a commercial burglary in Thousand Oaks in January 2022.  While searching the home, two detectives located an unknown powdery substance and became ill. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment.  The detectives are in good condition and expected to make a full recovery.

The substance was tested by Los Angeles County Hazmat teams with the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Fire Department, which confirmed the presence of dangerous opiates. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office crime lab will conduct further testing to identify the substance.

Gomez was arrested at the scene for the commercial burglary.  He was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility, where he is currently being held in lieu of a $110,000.00 bail. He has a scheduled arraignment in Ventura Superior Court on March 3, 2022, at 1:30 pm in Courtroom #13.
