On March 2nd at approximately 1:45 PM, Deputies responded to a battery in the area of old Paris Road and Bennett Lane in West Terre Haute. Prior to arrival, responding units were advised a female victim had cuts to her neck and wrist. Sugar Creek fire department responded to the scene as well. Further information came in through Vigo County dispatch stating the possible suspect vehicle was being followed by another vehicle. Utilizing information provided through dispatch, deputies and West Terre Haute Police were able to locate the suspect vehicle traveling west on interstate 70. Deputies observed the vehicle and soon after attempted to initiate a traffic stop by activating their emergency lights, at which time the suspect vehicle continued west on interstate 70 traveling in Illinois, failing to stop. Illinois authorities soon after assisted and took the lead in pursuing the suspect vehicle. Ultimately the vehicle stopped on interstate 70 and Illinois authorities took the suspect into custody, without incident. The suspect was thereafter extradited back to Indiana and transported to the Vigo County Jail. The suspect is listed as Seth Whitner, 29 years old, out of Terre Haute Indiana. He is being charged with aggravated battery. The victim in the incident whose name is not being released at this time was transported to UNION hospital for her injuries. The victim was taken into surgery and is currently listed in stable condition. Assisting in this investigation were the West Terre Haute Police Department, Sugar Creek fire department, Clark County Sheriff’s office, Martinsville Illinois police, Marshall Illinois police and Vigo County Prosecutors office.
