Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and Hayward Police to Provide Service in Fremont Over Weekend and Road Closure Planned

Beginning the evening of March 4, 2022, through the morning of March 6, 2022, Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) and Hayward Police Department will be handling all patrol field services within the City of Fremont.

Police Service Coverage:
In an effort to allow every member of the Fremont Police Department the opportunity to honor and celebrate the life of Captain Frederick Bobbitt Jr., a coordinated patrol staffing plan has been developed with the assistance of ACSO and the Hayward Police Department to cover patrol field services for the City of Fremont this weekend.  Field services include dispatch, patrol, community services, and animal services.  The staffing plan will cover approximately 32 hours beginning on March 4, 2022 at 10:00 PM through March 6, 2022 at 6:00 AM.   Fremont Police staff will be available to help monitor and will be in communication with ACSO and Hayward as needed.

Road Closure:
On Saturday, March 5 from 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM, eastbound Thornton Ave will be closed between Blacow Road and Cabrillo Drive.  Westbound Thornton Ave will remain open to traffic.

On Saturday, March 5 from 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM, Stevenson Blvd between Civic Center Drive and Guardino Drive will be closed in both directions. During this time, there is no vehicular access to the Police Department, the dog park, and the basketball courts near the dog park. Pedestrian access to the facilities will remain open.

Traffic is expected to be heavy in the general area of Stevenson near the Police Department between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, and at Thornton between Paseo Padre Pkwy and Blacow Rd between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, and again between 12:00PM and 1:00 PM for a formal police procession. Motorists are advised to try and use alternative routes to avoid long wait times.  In addition to ACSO and Hayward Police, Union City Police and Newark Police Department will be in Fremont to assist with the services and procession to Harbor Light Church.

Crime Reporting:
Community members shouldn’t experience any difference in service, and all calls will be prioritized based on the nature of the call, with life-threatening emergencies receiving the highest priority and cold (late reported) crimes with no suspect information a lower priority.  Please continue to call 9-1-1 for emergencies and report non-emergencies by calling 510-790-6800 x 3.  We will also accept online reports for crimes such as garage burglaries, harassing phone calls, hit and run collisions with no suspect information, mail theft, identity theft, vandalism, etc., visit https://fremontpolice.gov/PoliceReport.

We appreciate all of the support we have received from our community and partnering agencies.  We’d like to thank ACSO, Hayward PD, Union City PD, and Newark PD for their help.
