Crime Alert Bulletin covering the week of February 21-27, 2022
When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.
Notable Cases
On Monday, 02-21-22, at approximately 11:27 p.m., Officer Zhang initiated a traffic enforcement stop on a Mazda CX-7 at Westmoor Avenue and Southgate Avenue after noticing the left portion of the rear license plate was obliterated. The vehicle had six unpaid parking violations; therefore, Officer Zhang requested to have the vehicle towed. The driver, a 28-year old San Francisco resident, was asked to exit the vehicle. The vehicle’s center console was searched and a camouflage bag containing a clear bag with a substantial amount of crystal methamphetamine was found. The suspect was arrested and cited for possession of a controlled substance.
On Thursday, 02-24-22, at approximately 6:29 p.m. Officer Greene, Officer Zhang, and Acting Sergeant Poti were dispatched to the 800 block of Brunswick Street on a report of an argument where the suspect pointed a kitchen knife at his neighbor. The victim said that he went to speak with his downstairs neighbor, since his neighbor was making a lot of noise, causing his infant child to wake up. The victim was talking through a window with the suspect, who became upset and grabbed a large kitchen knife, pointed it at the victim, and said, “I will kill you.” The victim was in fear, since the suspect proceeded to walk towards a door that led to the victim. In fear of the victim’s safety, the victim’s wife pulled the victim inside a stairway and locked the door. The suspect, a 74-year old Daly City resident, was arrested and booked into jail for criminal threats.
On Thursday, 02-24-22, at approximately 10:25 p.m., Officer Mendiara and Officer Zhang were dispatched to the Broadmoor Police Department on a report of a man having a gun pointed at him. The victim, a 28-year old Daly City resident, stated he left the Serramonte Shopping Center parking garage at the Callan Boulevard exit. As he was stopped the Callan Boulevard and Southgate Avenue intersection waiting for the traffic light to turn green, he heard a male voice aggressively yelling at him to stop. The victim looked through the closed front passenger side window of his vehicle and noticed the yelling was coming from the driver of a black four-door sedan stopped next to him. As the victim made eye contact with the driver, the driver pulled a firearm from the center console area of the vehicle with his right hand, reached across his body, and pointed the firearm at the victim through the open front driver’s side window of the sedan. The victim sped away in an attempt to get away from the suspect vehicle. The victim described the suspect as a light-skinned black male, approximately 27-35 years of age, clean shaven, and wearing a red banana and green long sleeve unzipped top. There were also three male passengers in the suspect vehicle with no further descriptions. This investigation is continuing.
On Saturday, 02-26-22, at approximately 4:45 p.m., Police Assistant Gutierrez observed smoke coming from a small fire at the heavily wooded tree line on the 4000 block of Callan Boulevard next to a gas station. Officer Abuan arrived and noticed the fire and a suspect, a 35-year old transient out of Daly City. The suspect was standing a few feet away and was fueling the fire by throwing shrubs and tree branches into it. The suspect was arrested, and after a search, a pipe used to ingest methamphetamine and a container with two bags of crystal methamphetamine were found. The suspect was booked into jail for arson, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of illegal paraphernalia.

Nextdoor.com
Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
