Nature of Incident: | Public Invited to Review and Comment on 2022 Update to the Ventura County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan |
|||
Date & Time: | March 1, 2022
Unit(s) Responsible: | Office of Emergency Services
Narrative: | Throughout 2021, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services worked in partnership with local jurisdictions, including all 10 incorporated cities and 14 special districts, to update the County’s 2015 Hazard Mitigation Plan. A draft of the updated 2022 Hazard Mitigation Plan is now available for public review and comment at www.ReadyVenturaCounty.org. The comment period is open through 5:00 pm on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. The County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan is a comprehensive resource document that serves to identify cost-effective and sustainable actions to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from natural hazards. The federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requires local governments maintain an approved Hazard Mitigation Plan to be eligible for certain types of funding. Successful completion of the 2022 update will also benefit communities participating in FEMA’s Community Rating System and may help reduce flood insurance premiums in those areas. After closing the public comment period, the County will incorporate applicable feedback and submit the draft plan to the State of California and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for review. |
