On Friday, March 4, 2022, Detective Dennis LeCaptain officially retired after over 30 years of service to the Janesville Police Department (JPD) and City of Janesville.

Detective LeCaptain has served as a member of the JPD since his hire as a Patrol Officer in January 1992. Growing up on a dairy farm in northern Wisconsin, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He credits a calling to serve for leading him to a career in law enforcement.

Throughout his career with the JPD, Detective LeCaptain held a variety of assignments, including Range Officer, Field Training Officer, and member of the Emergency Response Team. In 2001, he came to his current role with the Detective Bureau. He has investigated various cases in that assignment, securing justice for our community's most vulnerable victims through his work specializing in crimes against children. 

Detective LeCaptain has been recognized for his service on numerous occasions, including receiving a Chief's Letter of Commendation in 2007 and an Exemplary Service Citation in 2008. He received the latter award for his expertise in investigating and eliciting a confession from a repeated child sex offender. He was also awarded the City's Mighty Oak Award in 2019.

In retirement, Detective LeCaptain plans to spend more time with his family, including his wife Jackie and their three children. A talented craftsman, he looks forward to continuing with his woodworking hobby. He will also continue professionally in a role with the Wisconsin Professional Police Association. 

Detective LeCaptain was grateful that his work allowed him to work with many people and families in the community. When asked if he had any parting words, he simply said, "Be kind, be patient."
