Crime Blotter for the Week of February 27 - March 05, 2022

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of February 27, 2022 - March 05, 2022.        
 
February 27, 2022

  • Burglary (Vehicle):
751 Encanto Parkway (Encanto Park). On 02/27/22 between 1:15 pm and 3:27 pm suspect(s) unknown entered the victim’s vehicle a gray 2016 Acura MDX that was parked at the location while she went for a bike ride. Suspect(s) unknown stole her wallet containing cash and credit cards. Loss was approximately $1,000. No surveillance video.
  • Petty Theft:
800 Block of Junipero Drive. Between 02/26/22 at 8:00 pm and 02/27/22 11:00 am suspect(s) unknown entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle a gray 2007 Toyota Tacoma and stole his company laptop. Loss was approximately $800. No surveillance video available.
 
February 28, 2022
  • Rape:
1533 Huntington Drive (Days Inn).  On 02/28/22 at 4:00 am the victim was in an ongoing dating relationship with her supervisor. They travel from state to state due to business. They were sharing a room at the location when they began to argue over sex. The victim left the room to diffuse the situation. She returned to the room several hours later and fell asleep in the shared bed with the suspect. The victim was awoken to the suspect rolling her onto her back and forcing himself on her. The suspect began to sexually assault her. The victim attempted to resist but was unable to. The next morning, they had another argument, at which point the suspect stated to the victim she could no longer stay with him. The victim refused medical attention stating she had a flight to Nebraska she needed to catch. Suspect outstanding.
 
March 01, 2022
  • Burglary (Commercial):
1128 Huntington Drive (KFC). Between 02/28/22 10:00 pm and 03/01/22 8:30 am suspect(s) unknown shattered the side entrance door and entered the location. Once inside suspect(s) unknown pried open the office door and ransacked the business and stole money from a safe. Loss was approximately $3,800. Surveillance video not available at time of report.
 
March 02, 2022
  • Grand Theft Vehicle:
1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). On 03/02/22 Between 11:00 am and 11:30 am suspect(s) unknown stole the victims parked vehicle a blue 1995 Chevy S-10.  No surveillance video available. Vehicle outstanding.
 
March 03, 2022
  • Grand Theft:
1800 Block of Bradbury Avenue. Between 03/02/22 8:00 pm and 03/03/22 4:15 am suspect(s) unknown stole the catalytic converter to the victims parked vehicle a blue 2003 Honda Accord. Loss was approximately $1,500. No surveillance video available.
  • Aggravated Assault:
1322 Huntington Drive (Grocery Outlet).  On 03/03/22 at 8:20 pm the victim who is a transient, was in rear alley of the location, when he was contacted by another transient a male black adult in his 30’s known by the name “Derrick”.  The suspect without notice began to assault the victim. The suspect struck the victim multiple times while holding a pocketknife in the open position. The victim sustained a laceration to his face and redness to his back. The victim refused medical transportation. Suspect outstanding.

  • Use Strong Passwords- Use different user ID/password combinations for other accounts and avoid writing them down. Make the passwords more complicated by combining letters, numbers, special characters (minimum of 10 characters in total) and changing them regularly.
  • Secure Your Computer- Activate your firewall, firewalls are the first line of cyber defense; they block connections to unknown or bogus sites and keep out some types of viruses and hackers.
  • Use anti-virus/malware software- Prevent viruses from infecting your computer by installing and regularly updating anti-virus software.
  • Block spyware attacks- Prevent spyware from infiltrating your computer by installing and updating anti-spyware software.
  • Be Social-Media Savvy- Make sure your social networking profiles (E.G. Facebook, Twitter) are set to private.  Be careful about what information you post online.
