Suspect charged after the recent shooting in West Berkeley
On March 8th, detectives arrested two suspects in connection to a recent shooting on the 2100 block of Seventh Street.
On March 4th at about 7:09 pm, the Berkeley Police Department responded to the 2100 block of Seventh Street on a report of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found a 47-year-old man lying in the street who had been seriously injured by gunfire. Officers performed lifesaving measures on the man until the Fire Department arrived. The Fire Department transport the man to the hospital, where he later died.
After additional investigation, detectives were able to identify two suspects (a 62-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman) through witnesses and video surveillance.
On March 8th, detectives located and arrested both suspects in a motel in Pinole, CA.
On March 9th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged one of the suspects (the 62-year-old man) with PC 187(a)—murder, PC 29800(a)(1)—possession of a firearm by a felon, PC 30305(a)(1)—possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, as well as several criminal enhancements.
This case remains under investigation.
