Felony Suspect Arrested After Foot Pursuit
A suspect was arrested on several charges after a foot chase and altercation with arresting officers.
On Friday, March 11, 2022, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the Central Marin Police Authority received a frantic 9-1-1 call from a resident on Sunny Hills Drive in San Anselmo, reporting a physical altercation between two adults inside the residence. Officers were immediately dispatched and quickly learned that one of the parties involved, Laron Cook, 23, of San Anselmo had an outstanding felony warrant out of San Francisco County for weapons and explosive device violations. Upon arrival, the officers learned that Cook had barricaded himself with his one-year-old child in the back bedroom of the residence. Officers began establishing a perimeter, when Cook jumped out of the two-story residence onto the ground level and immediately began running away from the officers, leaving the child in the residence unharmed. Cook ran across all lanes of traffic of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard towards a residential neighborhood in the area. As the officers pursued Cook, he was seen jumping into a debris dumpster nearby. The officers quickly convened around the area and attempted to utilize de-escalation tactics. Cook exited the dumpster and immediately began fighting with the officers who were able to take him into custody. Several officers sustained minor injuries; however, Cook was not injured.
Cook was medically cleared at a local hospital and then transported to the Marin County Jail and booked on charges for battery, child endangerment, resisting arrest, battery on peace officers, and the outstanding warrants.
