Full Notification

On March 14, 2022 at 8:30 p.m., Gilroy police officers along with Gilroy fire personnel responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Monterey Road and Travel Park Circle.  Upon arrival, it was determined to be a passenger vehicle versus a semi-truck.  The driver of the passenger vehicle was found deceased upon arrival.
 
The collision ruptured the fuel tank of the semi-truck, and a large amount of diesel fuel flooded the roadway.  The roadway was closed until 4:30 a.m. for the collision investigation, hazardous materials cleanup, and removal of vehicles. 

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin by the Santa Clara County Coroner. The factors leading to the cause of the collision are currently under investigation.  The investigation will determine what caused the collision and if alcohol or other intoxicants may have contributed to the collision.
