Simi Valley Residents Invited To Provide Input On County-Wide Hazard Mitigation Plan

Contact:

Eileen Connors
Emergency Services Manager
(805) 583-6982

Throughout 2021, the City of Simi Valley worked in partnership with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services to update the County’s 2015 Hazard Mitigation Plan, including identified hazards in Simi Valley.

A draft of the updated 2022 Hazard Mitigation Plan is now available for public review and comment at www.ReadyVenturaCounty.org.  The comment period is open now through 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.

The County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan is a comprehensive resource document that serves to identify cost-effective and sustainable actions to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from natural hazards.  The federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requires local governments to maintain an approved Hazard Mitigation Plan to be eligible for certain types of funding.  Successful completion of the 2022 update will also benefit Simi Valley as a participant of FEMA’s Community Rating System and may help reduce flood insurance premiums for affected residents.

Following the close of the public comment period, the County of Ventura will incorporate applicable feedback and submit the draft plan to the State of California and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for review.
