Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred Forty-Second Update, Saturday, March 19, 2022

Albany County COVID-19 dashboard shows that the County had 32 new positive cases since yestersay, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic to 62,645 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased by 2/5ths of a case 32.7 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital due to COVID-19 symptoms remained at 12 patients.  The County reported no deaths overnight, and the County’s pandemic death toll remained at 536.

The County reported that Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy tested positive today for COVID-19.  Mr. McCoy is fully vaccinated and boosted, is doing fine, and isolating and recovering at home.   We wish Mr. McCoy a speedy recovery and thank him for his leadership during this pandemic.

State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.3% of the County’s total population and 89.7% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.1% of the total population, and for boosters was 64.1% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 89.3% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 75.9% for the total population, and for boosters was 56.1% of the eligible population.  There were no changes overnight for any of these percentages.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 136,585 tests Statewide were 2,642 or 1.9% positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 1.9%.  The Capital Region had 4.078 tests of which 104 or 2.6% were positive, with the seven-day average remaining at 2.5%.  The County had 895 tests of which 27 or 3.0% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 2.5%.

Governor Hochul announced today that the State’s positive rate for tests was 1.93%.  Other COVID-19 data included hospitalizations (929, -53), new admissions (127), ICU patients (147, -10), intubations (76, -6), and deaths (5).

The CDC’s weekly data for whether facemasks should be worn indoors now has all 62 of the State’s counties at a “low” community level of infection.  At this “low” level, facemasks are not recommended indoors.

After several years of planning and design, DOT’s contractor will soon start construction of two roundabouts on Carman Road, one at the lighted intersection with Lydius Street, and the second at the I-890 ramp in Rotterdam.  Next week, preliminary site work will start, with the removal of the long vacant Nedco Pharmacy building in early April.  All work is weather-dependent.  The new roundabouts are funded by a Federal highway safety improvement program and will replace lighted intersections with documented accident histories.  DOT has more project information here, including a very interesting computer-generated modeling of the existing intersection and proposed roundabout.  And thanks to a grant secured by Assemblyperson Pat Fahy, a new sidewalk on Carman Road will be constructed from the new roundabout to the Pine Bush Elementary School.

Any information about possible temporary road closures and detours will be shared as soon as possible by email and social media, and posted on the Town website.   To stay better informed, please consider signing up for Nixle, a free service for receiving wide-ranging information about Town events.

So much for the forecasted windy rainy day, but keep an eye out for stormy weather this evening.   For mid-March, a partly sunny and mild day is rare, and I hope that you found time to enjoy outdoor activities.

Thank you for staying safe and calm.
