El Cerrito Police Department Blotter March 14th to March 17th 2022
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
March 14th
Vandalism – 11481 San Pablo Avenue (NEK Insurance):
At 8:34 PM, an officer reports an ex-girlfriend confronted the janitor of the business about outstanding keys to her residence. When the janitor returned the keys, the woman kicked the door to the business breaking the glass.
March 15th
Battery – 11454 San Pablo Avenue (Ross):
At 6:11 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect threw a plastic container at an employee inside the business during an altercation. The suspect fled prior to police arriving on scene.
Auto Burglary – 500 block of Oak Street:
At 10:53 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect broke a window to the victim’s vehicle and removed property from inside the vehicle.
Arson – 1700 block of Elm Street:
At 12:32 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect set fire to a green mesh covering the chain link fencing at a construction site in the area.
Arson – 10382 San Pablo Avenue (San Pablo Discount Cigarette):
At 3:31 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect placed a burning propane torch up against the business front door which caused damage.
March 16th
Vandalism – 5500 block of Central Avenue:
At 6:52PM, an officer accepted the Citizen’s Arrest of a 50-year-old man who had damaged the windshield of a nearby vehicle with a golf club. The man was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Grand Theft – 700 block of Kearney Street:
At 8:24 PM, an officer reports two unknown suspects stole the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle earlier that same day.
Trespassing – 10600 San Pablo Avenue:
At 8:33 PM, an officer accepted the Citizen’s Arrest of a 33-year-old man who was found inside a construction site in the area. The man was also in possession of drug paraphernalia; he was released after being issued a citation.
March 17th
Residential Burglary – 600 block of Kearney Street:
At 5:08 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect made entry into a residence some time over an 8-day period.
Shoplifting – 11454 San Pablo Avenue (Ross):
At 6:50 PM, an officer reports the Citizen’s Arrest of a 24-year-old man for shoplifting from the business. The man was issued a citation and released at the scene.
Armed Robbery – 11939 San Pablo Avenue (Home Depot):
At 11:33 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect approached the victim and a friend and pointed a gun at the victim before demanding money. The suspect fled with the victim’s wallet.
