Supervisor Barber's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred Forty-Fifth Update (Tuesday, March 22, 2022)

In a press release today, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy reported that there were 33 new positive cases in the County since yesterday, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 62,730 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases increased from 32.9 to 36.0 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital due to COVID-19 symptoms increased by one to now 14 patients, with three patients in the ICU.  The County reported no deaths overnight, and the County’s pandemic death toll remained at 536.

State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.3% of the County’s total population and 89.7% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.1% of the total population, and for boosters was 64.1% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 89.4% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 76.0% for the total population, and for boosters was 56.0% of the eligible population.

The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 63,513 tests Statewide were 1,497 or 2.4% positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 1.8%.  The Capital Region had 1,340 tests of which 52 or 3.9% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 2.8%.  The County had 420 tests of which 19 or 4.5% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 2.6%.

Governor Hochul announced today that the State’s positive rate for tests was 2.36%.  Other COVID-19 data included hospitalizations (950, +49), new admissions (129), ICU patients (162, +3), intubations (71, 0), and deaths (7).

With the construction season almost here, you will soon see progress on three sidewalks projects linking neighborhoods to elementary schools.  At its March 15 meeting, the Town Board awarded the contract to construct a new sidewalk on West Old State Road from Carman Road to Regina Drive, and the entrance to Lynnwood Elementary School.  Like the other sidewalks, this sidewalk will be installed during the construction season.

You may have noticed this week the placement of work pylons on the south shoulder of Western Avenue, opposite the Prospect Hill Cemetery.  Highway Department crews are now preparing that area for the second sidewalk to be constructed from Devonshire Drive to Mercy Care Lane, and the Guilderland Public Library and Guilderland Elementary School.  Once bids are received and evaluated next week, the Town Board will asked at an April meeting to award the construction contract for this eagerly awaited sidewalk.  The third sidewalk is part of the new roundabout project at Carman Road and Lydius Street, and will be constructed from Ronald Place to Coons Road, and Pine Bush Elementary School.  I have heard from many residents who are excited because these sidewalks will allow children and families to walk to neighborhood schools.

Thank you for staying safe and calm.
