Petaluma Robbery Suspect Arrested After Just Committing Another Robbery in San Rafael
On Saturday, March 18th, Petaluma PD officers investigated a robbery that occurred at the Speedway Gas station in the 2600 block of Lakeville Highway. A store employee reported that a black male adult entered the store and approached the cash register. The male suspect ordered the employee to open the cash register where he stole cash and lottery tickets. The suspect left shortly thereafter on foot toward Casa Grande Road. During the incident, the suspect told the employee that he had gun. The case was assigned to our Investigations Unit. Detectives reviewed surveillance video from the robbery and identified a possible suspect. Detectives contacted California State Parole and were able to confirm the identity of the suspect.
Today, at approximately 2:45 PM, Detectives attempted to contact the suspect who was working in San Rafael. While Detectives, were attempting to locate the suspect at his place of work in San Rafael, a similar robbery occurred near their location. Our detectives went to the area, which was the Chevron gas station on Second Street and observed the suspect vehicle they were looking for leaving the area of the robbery. PPD Detectives followed the suspect vehicle from San Rafael to Richmond. The suspect stopped at a Chevron gas station on Cutting Blvd., in Richmond. Detectives conducted a High-Risk Stop and took the suspect into custody without incident.
It was determined the suspect our Detectives were following had robbed the Chevron gas station in San Rafael of lottery tickets and again had claimed to have a firearm. A large amount of lottery tickets from the San Rafael robbery was found in the suspect vehicle. No firearm was found on the suspect. The suspect, William A. Kennedy Jr., a 43-year-old Petaluma resident was booked into Marin County Jail by San Rafael PD for robbery. San Rafael PD continue to investigate the robbery. Petaluma PD Detectives will also file robbery charges against Suspect Kennedy in Sonoma County. Detectives are also looking to see if Suspect Kennedy is responsible for any other recent robberies in the area.
