Alert: Eagle River Avalanche; Please avoid 2400-block of Hiland

Any residence uphill of the 2200 block of Hiland River Road and in the South River Lane neighborhood will not have road access in or out of the area until HIland Road is cleared of snow.  Residence may also have limited utilities. Please avoid the area. Do not drive snow machines on the avalanche as the ground may be unstable.
At 1:15 AM Anchorage Police Officers responded to the 2400-block of Hiland road for a report of an Avalanche. When officers arrived they found a section of Hiland Road under 40+ feet of snow. Officers were able to canvas on foot and by drone to verify that there were no homes affected by the avalanche. Based on the information that officers have gathered at the scene we have no indication that any persons are trapped in the avalanche. APD coordinated their response with Anchorage Fire Department, Matsu Search and Rescue, Solstice Dogs, Alaska Mountain Rescue, DOT, and the municipal street maintenance. Crews are working on avalanche mitigation to make it safe for road crews to remove the snow. The snow removal process may take several days.
If you have reason to believe that there may be someone trapped in the avalanche, please call 9-1-1.
