Supervisor Barber's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred Forty-Eighth Update (Friday, March 25, 2022)
In press release today, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy reported that there were 47 new positive cases in the County since yesterday, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 62,885 positive cases. The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased by 3/5th of a case to 40.0 cases. The number of County residents in the hospital due to COVID-19 symptoms increased by one to now 13 patients, with three patients in the ICU. The County reported no deaths overnight, and the County’s pandemic death toll remained at 536.
The County Executive added:
While we’re seeing a slight uptick in our average percent positivity and daily COVID infections, which is likely being driven by the new Omicron sub-variant, hospitalizations are remaining low and stable. I’m also happy to say that we haven’t reported a new COVID death in Albany County since March 13.
We remain in a strong position, and part of the reason is because so many people have gotten vaccinated and received their booster shots. For those who haven’t gotten their shots yet, I strongly encourage you to do so. Vaccines are widely available and they’re the best protection we have against the serious illnesses and potential deaths caused by the Coronavirus, especially for those with underlying health conditions and weakened immune systems.
State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.3% of the County’s total population and 89.7% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.1% of the total population, and for boosters was 64.1% of the eligible population. The State’s rate for one dose was 89.4% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 76.0% for the total population, and for boosters was 56.0% of the eligible population. For several days, there have been no movement in any of these percentages.
The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 138,666 tests Statewide were 3,327 or 2.4% positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 2.1%. The Capital Region had 5,005 tests of which 165 or 3.3% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 3.2%. The County had 1,239 tests of which 32 or 2.6% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 3.2%. For the second consecutive day, all daily percentages and seven-day averages increased yesterday.
Governor Hochul announced today that the State’s positive rate for tests was 2.40%. Other COVID-19 data included hospitalizations (869, -42), new admissions (132), ICU patients (139, -11), intubations (65, -3), and deaths (5).
In announcing this year’s spring activities, the White House stated that the Easter egg roll would return this year on Monday, April 18, and that spring garden tours on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10. While probably not worth the 400-mile one-way trip from here, these year’s events are examples of a return to pre-pandemic times.
The same is true here, with the return of young musicians in the Empire State Youth Orchestra who are performing on Saturday, March 26 from 11am to 5:30pm at Crossgates. The musical marathon consists of nine performing groups, ranging from classical to jazz, and is ESYO’s primary fundraising event. More information, including the performance schedule, is available online at www.esyo.org/playathon. The event is free and is an opportunity to enjoy music and show appreciation for young musicians’ hard work and performances.
I hope that you have an enjoyable and relaxing early spring weekend.
Thank you for staying safe and calm.
