Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators are continuing their investigation into the apparent gang related shooting death of a 23 year old Hispanic man in East Los Angeles.
Deputies from East Los Angeles Station responded to the 1400 block of Carmelita Avenue regarding a gunshot victim call at 9:37 AM today.
Upon arriving they discovered the victim in a car on nearby City Terrace Drive. The victim was unresponsive suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators learned the victim was driving a white compact car and had stopped on Carmelita Avenue and Mandalay Drive in front of a black sedan also stopped in the street. The victim exchanged gunfire with the occupants of the black sedan. The victim drove away westbound on City Terrace Drive and pulled to the curb where he became unresponsive.
It appears no other individuals were injured in this shooting. There is no suspect description at this time.
The murder weapon remains outstanding.
This shooting is being investigated as gang related.
