Coronavirus (COVID-19) Seven Hundred Fiftieth Update, Sunday, March 28, 2022

The Albany County COVID-19 dashboard reported that there were 42 new positive cases in the County since yesterday, which raised the County’s COVID-19 cumulative pandemic total to 62,985 positive cases.  The County’s seven-day average of new daily positive cases decreased from 43.8 to 43.0 cases.  The number of County residents in the hospital due to COVID-19 symptoms decreased by one to now 12 patients, with one patient in the ICU.  The County reported one death overnight, and that the County’s pandemic death toll is now at 538.
 
State DOH reported that the County’s rate for one vaccine dose as of yesterday was 81.4% of the County’s total population and 89.8% of the adult population, and the County’s rate for full-vaccination was 74.2% of the total population, and for boosters was 64.1% of the eligible population.  The State’s rate for one dose was 89.5% for the total population and 95.0% of adults, and the State’s rate for full-vaccination was 76.1% for the total population, and for boosters was 56.0% of the eligible population.  
 
The State’s COVID-19 website reported that yesterday’s results for 120,664 tests Statewide were 2,778 or 2.3% positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 2.3%.  The Capital Region had 4.184 tests of which 116 or 2.8% were positive, with the seven-day average decreasing to 3.3%.  The County had 902 tests of which 28 or 3.1% were positive, with the seven-day average increasing to 3.4%.  
 
Governor Hochul announced today that the State’s positive rate for tests was 2.30%.    Other COVID-19 data included hospitalizations (822, -23), new admissions (121), ICU patients (135, -8), intubations (57, -5), and deaths (7).
 
The Albany Pine Bush Preserve is looking for neighbors to participate in its Community Science Program which plays a crucial role in how it manages the Preserve and also provides participants with a better understanding of its ecology and the harmful impacts of invasive species.  On Wednesday, March 30 from 7pm to 8:30pm, the Preserve’s science staff will host an online training session about identifying and reporting invasive species, including a tutorial on how to use iMap Invasives, an online mapping tool designed for sharing data about invasive species in the Preserve and surrounding neighborhoods.  The program is free, with reservation required online or by calling (518) 456-0655. 
 
I hope that you were able to enjoy the first full spring weekend, despite the unseasonably cold and wet weather.  The weather should improve in time for the delayed opening of 2022 baseball season on Thursday, April 7, including the NY Mets on the road in Washington, DC.
