Burglary Arrests

Since 03/18/22, the Janesville Police Department has taken 12 reports of burglaries to independent businesses in the evening and overnight hours.  The suspect used a similar point of entry to gain access and are related.

On 03/27/22 at 1:10 A.M., officers of the Janesville Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts, 1535 Center Ave.  Upon arrival, officers discovered forced entry to the building and a disturbed cash register.  Officers were able to meet with a representative of the victimized business.  The suspect’s physical and clothing description were quickly obtained and given out to other officers.  An amount of U.S. Currency was taken in this incident.

At 2:45 A.M. officers encountered a suspect matching that description in the 500 block of Prospect Ave.  The suspect, later identified as Joseph Olson, matched the suspect description identically, possessed stolen property from the burglary, and was in possession of narcotics.  Olson was arrested and brought to the Police Department.  Evidence was recovered from Olson linking him to other burglaries.  Olson is currently on parole, through the Department of Corrections, for Burglary and other crimes and was released into the community in September 2021.

Olson was transported to the Rock County Jail where he will be held for an initial appearance.  The investigation into the burglaries remains open at this time by the Investigations Division.
