INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Ranchero Road & Tropican Rose Avenue, Hesperia, CA
INVOLVED PARTIES:
VEHICLE 1: 2007 Nissan Pathfinder SUV
Driver 18 Year Old Male, Hesperia Resident
VEHICLE 2: 2000 Chevrolet, Silverado Truck
Driver 41 Year Old Male, Hesperia Resident (Fatal)
Passenger 17 Year Old Male, Hesperia Resident
SUMMARY: On March 26, 2022, at approximately 12:44 a.m., deputies from the Hesperia Sheriff's Station and rescue personnel from San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a 2-vehicle head-on traffic collision near the intersection of Ranchero Road and Tropican Rose Avenue in the City of Hesperia.
Deputies arrived at the crash scene and located a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (V-2) which had sustained significant front-end damage, trapping the driver inside the truck. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene. A male juvenile passenger in V-2 sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The other involved vehicle, a Nissan Pathfinder (V-1), also sustain significant front-end damage during the collision. The driver of V-1 sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
The Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate the Nissan was traveling east on Ranchero Road while the Chevrolet traveled west on Ranchero Road. For unknown reasons, the Nissan traveled into the on-coming westbound lane which resulted in the head-on collision. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor, and the investigation is ongoing.
