SUMMARY: On March 29, 2022, deputies from the Highland Station were alerted to a stolen vehicle in the area of Baseline Street and Sterling Avenue, in the City of Highland. The San Bernardino Police Department reported two suspects stole the vehicle from the victim at gunpoint.

Deputy E. Campos located the vehicle as it drove on Baseline Street, toward Elmwood Road. The vehicle accelerated north on Elmwood Road after spotting patrol vehicles. The vehicle stopped in the 6000 block of Elmwood Road and three occupants fled from the vehicle on foot. One of the occupants, a 17-year-old male, was armed with a rifle.

With assistance from the Sheriff’s Aviation Division, deputies located the 17-year-old male, who no longer had the rifle in his possession, in the 6000 block of Del Rosa Avenue. The second occupant, later identified as a 16-year-old male, was located and detained nearby. The third occupant of the vehicle, described as a black teenage male, was not located and remains at large.

Highland Station deputies and detectives searched the area and located the rifle near Elmwood Road and Pacific Street. The rifle was found to be an un-serialized, short-barreled 9MM rifle. The rifle was equipped with a loaded, high-capacity magazine. The 17-year-old male suspect was arrested and booked into the juvenile detention center. The 16-year-old suspect was arrested, issued a citation, and released to the custody of his parent(s).

Anyone with any additional information regarding the investigation, the identity of the third suspect, or his whereabouts is asked to contact Deputy E. Campos at the Highland Station, (909) 425-9793.
