Water Pipe Questionnaire/Survey (Follow Link For Further Information)

Dear Denville Water Utility Customers:

The New Jersey Department of Environment Protection (“NJDEP”) has required all public water purveyors to perform a survey of their water customers to determine the type of material the private water service line is made of and to maintain a record of these results. This public outreach is being done in an effort to identify potential lead hazards and educate the State’s water customers of the risks associated with lead exposure. As such, the Denville Water Utility is asking for you to participate in the brief survey contained in the following link: https://denvillenj.org/waterpipe.php. The survey will take you through an easy step-by-step process of identifying the material your service line is made of. The entire review process and survey should take less than 2 – 3 minutes. Although not required, if you are able to take a photo of your service line and upload it to the survey form in the location indicated that would be helpful for our records.

The NJDEP has created a ten (10) year deadline for municipalities to ensure all lead hazards are removed from the public water system, including for private service lines. Although it is obvious that homeowners should consider replacing lead pipes immediately, there is also the potential that galvanized steel service lines could also pose a threat. This is because during the era galvanized steel was popularly utilized for service lines, plumbers often used lead solder to join the pipes and lead was sometimes used to line the interior of some galvanized steel pipes. Therefore, the replacement of galvanized steel piping is also strongly recommended. Plastic and copper piping are the preferred alternatives and pose the least amount of potential health risks.

The Township of Denville’s Water Department is committed to providing its customer with safe and high quality drinking water. Denville meets all requirements and is in full compliance with the NJDEP and New Jersey Safe Drinking Water Act, which includes regular testing of our drinking water supply. The following are links to our past Water Quality Reports: https://www.denvillenj.org/departments/utilities_(water_serwer_and_garbage).php. The 2021 report will be available in the coming months (as the reports are a culmination of the previous year’s testing results).

Your cooperation in taking the brief survey is sincerely appreciated.
