INCIDENT: Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Deputy Involved Shooting
LOCATION: 8900 block of Ninth Avenue, Hesperia
SUSPECT(S): Anthony Nunez, 42-year-old resident of Hesperia
VICTIM(S): Four San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies
SUMMARY: On March 29, 2022, deputies with the Hesperia Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance in the 8900 block of Ninth Avenue. The reporting party called 911 and told Sheriff’s Dispatch that Anthony Nunez assaulted a resident inside the home.
When deputies arrived, they contacted Nunez at the front door. He was uncooperative and held a weapon in his hands. As they spoke to Nunez, several occupants inside the residence were evacuated to safety. Deputies spoke with the residents and determined Nunez was a suspect in an Assault with a Deadly Weapon investigation. Nunez barricaded himself inside the residence with the weapon as deputies continually attempted to negotiate with him to surrender. Nunez eventually exited the home, armed with a weapon, and charged at the deputies. A deputy involved shooting occurred. Deputies and fire personnel immediately rendered medical aid. Despite the life saving measures, Nunez was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division responded and are conducting the investigation. No deputies or bystanders were injured during the incident.
