Needles PD to Present the Every 15 Minutes Program at Needles H.S. on April 4 and April 5; Expect Street Closure

DATE/TIME: Monday, April 4 and Tuesday, April 5, 2022

INCIDENT: Every 15 Minutes Event 

LOCATION: Needles High School, 1600 Washington Street, Needles


SUMMARY: On Monday, April 4, 2022, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department /Needles Police Department, in cooperation with the California Highway Patrol, will be conducting a simulated drunk driving traffic collision as part of the Every 15 Minutes program.  The collision will be staged on the street in front of Needles High School and will begin at approximately 12:00 p.m.  The mock collision will take place for approximately one hour and the roadway will be closed for several hours to allow for scene set-up and breakdown.  During the mock collision, there will be a simulated emergency response to the area.  This will be a mock emergency only and no real emergency will actually exists.

Every 15 Minutes is a two-day program which demonstrates to high school student the impact drinking and driving has on friends, families and their community.  The first day of the program is highlighted by a simulated traffic collision and will involve an impaired teenage driver and fatally injured victims.  The event includes emergency responses from police, fire and medical agencies, just as an actual collision would require.  The program will conclude with a mock funeral and assembly for the entire student body on April 5, 2022.

This event is coordinated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department with support from the California Highway Patrol, City of Needles, Colorado River Medical Center, Needles Unified School District, San Bernardino County Fire Department, Baker Emergency Medical Services, Desert Lawn Funeral Home, A Toe Truck, Salon by Houston, Chris Editing, Mohave County Medical Examiner and Coroner Office, and many other community partners and affiliates.
