Eluding Charges Stem from Shoplifting
SUBJECT: Shoplifting Leads to Eluding Charges

LOCATION: Seaview Square Mall in Ocean Township
ACCUSED: Christopher J. Mobley 27 year old male of Asbury Park, NJ; Shannon V. Soto 28 year old female of Asbury Park, NJ
NARRATIVE: On March 28th, 2022 at approximately 6:49 pm officers were dispatched to Target for a report of a shoplifting that had just occurred. The two subjects involved had concealed merchandise, exited the store and left in a vehicle. Officer Kolodziej arrived on scene and observed the vehicle traveling through the parking lot. Officer Kolodziej conducted a motor vehicle stop in the parking lot. As Officer Kolodziej approached the vehicle on foot, the driver began to drive away. Officer Kolodziej was unable to locate the vehicle after it fled and returned to Target. It was learned that the subjects had removed over $600.00 worth of merchandise from Target.
During the on scene investigation, Detectives Rhein and Clune responded to the scene and were able to identify one of the subjects involved as Christopher J. Mobley. The second subject was later identified at as Shannon V. Soto. Detective Rhein issued warrants for the arrest of Mobley and Soto.
Mobley was taken into custody on March 30th and charged with Shoplifting, Possession of Burglar Tools, and Criminal Mischief. He was committed to the Monmouth County Correctional Institute pending an initial court appearance. Soto was taken into custody on March 31st and charged with Eluding, Shoplifting, Possession of Burglar Tools, and Criminal Mischief. She was also committed to the Monmouth County Correctional Institute pending an initial court appearance.
