Advisory

Welcome to April here are a few important messages and reminders.

Garbage Pickup – Twice a week garbage pickup resumes starting Monday, April 4th for District 1- the Monday/Thursday route and Tuesday, April 5th for District 2- the Tuesday/Friday route.   Please place all items outside the night before to ensure removal.  Also, remember that you do pay for in yard service.

Shredding Day – Our spring shredding day event is being held on Saturday, April 2nd, from 9 am to 1 pm in the Borough Hall parking lot.  Please use the Sycamore Avenue entrance.

Hazardous Waste Collection- Bergen County will hold a hazardous waste collection day Sunday April 3rd from 9am- 3pm at Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Rd (enter from Paramus Rd only). For more info check our website  www.hhkborough.com and go to the Recycling page.

Online Bill Pay – The Borough is pleased to announce that we now have online bill pay available through our website for tax, water and solid waste bills.  Look for the link on the home page at  www.hhkborough.com

New Water Filtration System – We are happy to inform our residents that the NJDEP has approved the Borough’s permit for our new water filtration system designed to remove the PFOA and PFNA contaminates from our water system.  This is a major step in the process as our formal plans await final review and funding from the state.  We estimate this will happen in the next 60 to 90 days, since we are “ready to go” they will once again prioritize our applications.  We will then go out to bid for the project by the summer.  Subject to supply chain issues, it remains a possibility to meet our goal of having this project finished in this calendar year.  Please be aware that we are required by law to send out quarterly notices of violation until this project is completed.

Quality of Life Reminders

  • Please curb your dogs, pick up after them and keep them off private property.  As the nicer weather arrives, we are receiving more complaints about this than ever before.
  • Encourage everyone in your family to use the downtown garbage cans to keep our business district looking clean.
  • Remind everyone to keep your cars locked and remove the keys.  Right now, car theft due to keys being left in vehicles is at a record high in Northern Bergen County.
  • Finally, we would like to remind everyone to observe local traffic laws and speed limits as many of our residents have expressed their concern about speeding in their neighborhoods.  We are finding that quite often the offenders are their very own neighbors, our residents who are violating the rules.  Please observe posted speeds, yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and please use Bluetooth or other hands-free devices when using your phone while driving.
