Kohls Department Store Arson Investigation
On April 1st, 2022 shortly before 6 PM, Janesville Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to the Kohls Department Store, 2500 Milton Avenue for a commercial fire. Employees were actively evacuating the business upon arrival. Evacuation efforts continued and eventually, the fire was suppressed.
Through the course of the investigation, it was discovered the origin the of fire was located in the bedding area of Kohls, and the belief the fire was intentionally set.
Three individuals were located walking in the area. Their descriptions matched those of individuals who were seen in the area of the fire. They were detained and interviewed.
The three individuals were arrested for Arson and Recklessly Endangering Safety. Arrested are as follows:
A 17-year-old female from Janesville
An 11-year-old male from Janesville
A 15-year-old male from Janesville
The three arrested individuals remain in custody.
The Janesville Police Department is seeking witnesses to this incident based on interviews at the scene, it appears several customers were inside the department store at the time of the incident. People with information about the fire are encouraged to contact the Janesville Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing.
